Published by Mindset Health, the maker of Nerva. This is a guide to selected options, not an independent ranking, and no scores are assigned. Descriptions come from each program’s official site, checked September 7, 2026, and can change. The programs differ in scope; this comparison does not imply that one produces better outcomes than another.
Dedicated tools
A food reference, a barcode scanner or a symptom diary can each play a role alongside a care program.

Older articles still list IBS apps that have since been acquired, withdrawn or shut down. Here is what happened to them, so you do not go looking.
Acquired · May 2025
What it was: An FDA-cleared prescription digital therapeutic delivering cognitive behavioral therapy for IBS.
What happened: Nerva acquired Mahana Therapeutics’ key assets and is incorporating its CBT content into the Nerva program. Former Mahana referrers can refer to Nerva.

What it was: A CBT-based IBS care app from Bold Health.
What happened: Pulled from Google Play in 2023. Its website now redirects to an unrelated service.
Withdrawn from the US
What it was: A prescription gut-directed hypnotherapy app from metaMe Health, FDA-cleared for abdominal pain in adults with IBS.
What happened: No longer being prescribed in the US as far as we can find, and its website now redirects to its maker’s corporate page. Nerva delivers gut-directed hypnotherapy without a prescription.

Your personalized care program
Nerva is a personalized digital digestive care program combining clinical screening, brain-gut behavioral care, dietary guidance, symptom tracking and escalation when needed. It includes a six-week core program and continued maintenance access.
Gut-directed hypnotherapy, CBT-informed education and practical exercises help you work on the gut-brain side of digestive care.
Bring dietary guidance into the same program as your behavioral care, with education to help you understand the dietary side of your symptoms.
Follow your symptoms through the six-week core program. Continued maintenance access lets you keep using your program and tools beyond the core.
Our clinical team screens and escalates when medical follow-up is needed, while existing clinicians continue to manage diagnosis and complex care.
The Nerva difference
Nerva’s digital gut-directed hypnotherapy program was evaluated in a randomized trial. Here is what it found.
81%1of participants met the primary symptom endpoint, compared with 63% on active control.
Randomized controlled trial · N=244 · active control · AJG 2025 Read the research →
244 adults with IBS were randomized; 240 received the programs. The primary endpoint was a decrease of at least 50 points on the IBS Symptom Severity Scale at program completion. The trial evaluated a 42-session digital program with and without gut-directed hypnotherapy; its results apply to that studied intervention. Individual results vary.
Independent evaluation by PHTI
“Within the evidence reviewed, Nerva presented the strongest overall evidence for improving IBS symptoms.”

A 2016 randomized study of 74 adults compared practitioner-delivered gut-directed hypnotherapy, a low-FODMAP diet and the two together. Symptoms improved in every group, with no detected difference between them. It did not test today’s Nerva program. Read Peters et al. (2016).
